A wide stretch of wet sand under a lilac sky, with a thin line of white surf between them. Pamela keeps the whole picture inside a narrow band of colour, mauve and dove grey and pale apricot, so the light does the work rather than the contrast. The foreground is scraped on thinly enough that the weave of the canvas shows through, which is what gives the sand its damp sheen. One of her quietest paintings.
