Coast & Sea
Most of the coastal work here is Pamela Cooper's. She paints from Kommetjie, on the Cape peninsula, and the places arrive under their own names: Witsand is a real stretch of Cape coast rather than an invented title.

More about these works
Her method is consistent across all of them. She keeps the tonal range narrow, works the sky in dry broken layers so the weave of the canvas keeps showing through, then lays the foreground on almost flat. The light does the work rather than the contrast, which is why these stay quiet even when the sky is doing something dramatic.
Alongside them sit Artur Rama's Solitary, a weatherboard cottage behind dune grass with the sea flat behind it, and Standing Tall, a gull on a rope-bound mooring post. Michele Rama's Quiet sunset is the loudest thing in the group, a half sun on a black horizon line in hot pink and orange.

Every work at Rama Gallery is a one-of-a-kind original, so once a piece sells it is gone. If something here is marked sold, the artist may take a commission for similar work. Get in touch.
