Figures & Scenes

A person is the subject, whether or not you ever see their face. A good deal of this work is deliberately turned away, which leaves the light on a shoulder to carry the picture.

More about these works

Artur Rama keeps his figures moving, or walking off. Lady in Red walks away from you. Spanish Dancer is seen from behind with one arm extended out of the frame. Flamenco Dancer is caught mid-turn against near total black, with no floor, no room and no audience.

Community sits apart from the rest. Standing figures wrapped in pale blankets, painted in greys and black so the crowd reads as pattern first and as people second.

Michele Rama goes at the feeling head on. Shy turns her back entirely. Crying widow is a metre tall and named for what the figure is doing rather than for who she is, the body built from ribbons of red, yellow, blue and green with one dark line holding the contour together. Goodbye my lover leaves almost everything unresolved and lets the shape of the embrace do the work.
