Animals

African Elephant is the one to look at first. A bull comes forward out of a wall of dust, ears wide, painted entirely in sepia and soft black, the hide built from a dense web of cracks and creases before the animal dissolves into cloud at the edges. At 60 by 80cm it is the largest painting Artur has here.

More about these works

The rest are lighter in mood. Colorful koi has two fish passing each other going opposite ways, one gold and one deep pink, over a ground split down the middle. Best Friends rests a child and a cat's chins on the same stone ledge at almost exactly the same height, which is the whole point of the picture.

Politics is a donkey in a blue suit with a carrot where the boutonniere should be, painted with the same care Artur would give a portrait, which is exactly why it lands.
